Number of Tourists Increases in Shekhawati Region :
Jaipur, Shekhawati region has registered unprecedented increase in the number of foreign tourists this year. The Assistant Director (Tourism), Shri Umrao Singh Rathore informed that total number of 61,114 tourists visited this year from January to June in Jhunjhunu district, of which 43,831 were domestic tourists and 17,283 foreign tourists while 49,350 tourists including 39,724 domestic and 9626 foreign tourists visited during the same period last year in the area.

   This way Shekhawati region registered the increase in number of foreign tourists by 7657. He said that the artistic Haveli’s of Shekhawati, pilgrim centers, forts and other tourist’s places are the main attractions for the tourists. Jhunjhunu district occupies 7th position from the point of view of tourism in the state. He said that the maximum number of 5774 tourists came from France, 1988 from Germany, 1802 from Britain, 1128 from Australia, 593 from Switzerland, 1123 from Italy and 305 tourists came from Canada during this period.

South Central Railway To Launch Special Trains Between Secunderabad-Bikaner :
South Central Railway (SCR), one of the 16 railway zones of India will be launching special trains between Secunderabad to Bikaner that will start functioning from September to October to clear additional rush of traffic.
Train No. 0719 Secunderabad-Bikaner Special train will leave Secunderabad on September 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 (Wednesdays) at 2300 hrs and arrive in Bikaner at 1700 hrs on the 2nd day. In the return direction, Train No. 0720 Bikaner-Secunderabad Special train will leave Bikaner on October 5, 12, 19, 26 and 3 at 1515 hrs and arrive in Secunderabad at 0850 hrs on the second day.
Enroute, these trains will halt at Kazipet, Balharshah, Wardha, Akola, Malkapur, Bhushawal, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Surat and other places in both the directions a release from SCR said here today. South Central Railway in order to facilitate passengers has also installed LCD screens and dual-display systems at the reserved and unreserved ticket booking counters at the Hyderabad and Secunderabad railway stations, respectively. While, the LCD screens will help passengers in positioning their trains, the dual-display system not only displays the particulars entered by the railway employee while generating the ticket but also provides availability of berth and other details pertaining to safety precautions to be taken while traveling.

Buoyed on by the tremendous success of the Palace on Wheels, the Government of Rajasthan is all ready to flag off another, more luxurious train called the Royal Rajasthan On Wheels this October. It is a completely A/C train with a capacity to house 82 passengers per circuit. The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels will also have a trendy boardroom for the corporate travelers, Internet facility, TV, channel music and public address system.

    The concept of the restaurant lounge is also proposed to eliminate the waiting time. Passengers aboard the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels will be taken on a fascinating week long tour of destinations beginning with New Delhi-Jaipur-Bikaner-Jaisalmer-Jodhpur-Udaipur-Chittorgarh-Bharatpur-Agra-New Delhi. The passengers will be charged $2,000 for a suite plus taxes per trip. The tariff for deluxe accommodation on twin sharing basis will be around $800, whereas the deluxe single supplement would be of about $1,200.

Rajasthan Gets A New Tourism Circuit :
The famous Godwad region of Rajasthan has been recently added as the new tourism circuit in the state. Godwad, meaning root of hills, falls under 3 western districts i.e. Pali, Jalore and Sirohi on the western foothills of Aravali. The place has been a major tourist attraction for all those who want to catch a glimpse of Jain temples such as Ranakpur Temple, Barkana temple, Ghanerao and also to experience the rich tribal life in Aravali along with the wildlife and thick forest of Kumbhalgarh sanctuary.

    We have been exploring the opportunity of developing this region as it falls between Udaipur and Jodhpur circuit. With the development of facilities for tourists, this area has the potential to become a preferred tourist site with various attractions like temples and also adventure tourism,” said Prithiviraj, the district collector of Pali.  The state government has recently sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for developing tourist facilities in the area. Besides, government has also decided to include the famous Solana Khetlaji fair in the calendar of events of Rajasthan tourism.

Rajasthan Tourism is all set to scale great heights as Union government has sanctioned close to Rs 100 crore to develop new destinations of the state.

    The projects getting a go ahead under the centrally enforced scheme include; Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Barmer-Bikaner for mega dessert tourism circuit, which gets a bounty of Rs 50 crore, Pali- Jalore- Sirohi sector which get Rs 8 crore for developing Goadvad tourism circuit, Daang tourism circuit (Bharatpur, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur), Virat Nagar and Alwar district circuit too gets Rs 8 crore for development.The Union government has sanctioned Rs 8 crore to develop Kumbhal Garh-Tat Garh-Rawali- Ranakpur forest area into eco-tourism spots.Furthermore, the Union tourism ministry has approved funds worth Rs 4.8 crore to revamp the old state assembly (now town hall) and help Jaipur to become world-class.

Rajasthan’s Luxury Train ‘Palace On Wheels’ To Sport A New Look In August :
Rajasthan’s luxury train, Palace on Wheels (PoW)  that was recently ranked as the fourth best among the top 10 luxury trains of the world- is all set to sport a new look in the month of August . The new features of the train include a new spa, gym, cuisines from around the world, latest upholstery, improved interiors and other modern amenities.

 The second luxury train from the state - 'Royal Rajasthan on Wheels' (RRoW) - is also undergoing a face lift to woo tourists and make their experience enjoyable. While the ‘Palace on Wheels’ will start its journey from August, the ‘Rajasthan on Wheels’ will be on track from September.

A survey, conducted by travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller, has named Jaipur as the seventh best tourist city in Asia. In the survey there were more than 32,000 Conde Nast Traveller readers who answered for the best tourist places for the year 2008 Readers Choice Survey. Jaipur has bagged 76.5 percent of the total votes to rank seventh in the survey.
 
Other cities that have made in top 10 list of the magazine are: Bangkok, Hong Kong, Chiang Mai, Singapore, Kyoto, Shanghai, Jaipur, Tokyo, Hanoi and Beijing. Started in 1987, the magazine specializes in luxury travel and reviews of high-priced hotels, products, and services.

Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar Now A UNESCO World Heritage Site :
Jaipur’s well-renowned astronomical observatory, Jantar Mantar has now been declared as an UNESCO World Heritage Site thus making it Rajasthan’s second monument—after Keoladeo National Park—to acquire this distinction. The decision was taken at UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee meeting in Brasilia.Rajasthan Tourism Minister Bina Kak on August 1st made the announcement at the site and said that a three-member state government team had recently submitted a management plan to the committee after which the Jantar Mantar was included in the list.

Terming the addition of the Jantar Mantar in the world heritage list as a proud moment for the people of Rajasthan and the country, Rajasthan Tourism Minister Bina Kak  added “The process began almost a year ago when it was included in the tentative list and this is indeed a very proud moment for us.” The new status adjudged to the observatory is expected to give a major fillip in the state’s tourism sector.

Jantar Mantar, meaning calculation instrument is one of the largest and the best maintained of the 5 observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh II. The other observatories are in Ujjain, Delhi, Varanasi and Mathura. Jantar Mantar consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments and is considered as one of the most incredible, most comprehensive, and the best preserved of India’s historic observatories.

India’s first Elephant Village Unveiled In Rajasthan :
India´s first 'Elephant Village' in the northern state of Rajasthan was recently unveiled by Rajasthan tourism minister Bina Kak. The village that is closely located to the historical Ajmer fort houses the mahouts - keepers - and their elephants.

The project named ‘Elephant Village’ was jointly funded by the Central and Rajasthan government. Currently, 51 elephants have been accommodated where each has got its own marked house. The rest of the elephants would get the quarters in the near future. The project that was in the pipeline for the last 40 years has been finally completed due to the state government’s efforts.

Ajmer fort that has 113 elephants registers over 1.4 million tourists annually. Rajasthan Tourism Minister Bina Kak, said it was a great gift to the animal.

“The elephant ride is much in demand by both foreign and Indian tourists. Tourists feel like royalty when riding an elephant,” says Shyam Gupta, vice-president of Elephant Owners’ Association. The village has a man-made pond to provide water for the animals and a veterinary clinic. The Rajasthan government is hoping that the elephant village proves to be a hit with tourists.
